Wondering How Effective is Hypnotherapy for Insomnia? Find out all about it! Full Story

Hypnosis is one the most powerful, yet most misunderstood therapies of the modern era. People don’t realise that clinical hypnotherapy in Sydney works as a healing remedy and it has been around as long as mankind has. There are accounts, dating back to the ancient Sumerians, Persians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, of the use of hypnosis in healing the sick. The Egyptians and Greeks actually had sleep or dream temples, where the sick would go, and priests would put them into a trance and help them get better. In the case of ancient Egypt, this happened 5000 years ago, but the evidence shows that hypnosis, as part of healing, existed in every society, and in fact, was happening in pre-historic societies as well.
Each society or tribe would have its own ‘medicine-man’ or shaman, which would be referred to later by missionaries as ‘witch doctors.’ The shaman was a healer, who represented a connection between this earthly world and the spirit world. Using rituals such as costume, chanting and incense, the shaman would help get the sick person into a hypnotic state, or trance, and help heal illnesses. It was obvious then but was lost for thousands of years, how important the mind was in health. Although there were pioneers who “re-discovered” hypnosis for medical purposes in the 1700s and 1800s, it wasn’t until neuroscience came into being, along with sophisticated medical diagnostic equipment that results could be quantified.
Although we still don’t know the exact mechanism, we do know that if we can help someone get into a trance state, which can be measured by a particular brain frequency, that person can problem solve differently, can put things into a different perspective, can change their physiology and create shifts that positively impact their minds, bodies and lives.
In fact, the changes are so powerful, that, as an example, in 1956, at the Melbourne Olympic Games, the Soviet Union topped the medal board at 37 gold medals (24 more than the US), by bringing along a team of 11 hypnotists! After that, everyone caught on and the field of sports psychology and coaching took off. Unfortunately, it’s not as dramatic as counting Gold medals when we get people better with hypnosis, but the changes to their lives are more so. The improved quality of life, the ability to take control, enhanced ability to heal are all part of the process. Once certain thought patterns are helped, it’s incredible to see how other things improve like chronic fatigue, migraines, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, auto-immune conditions, as well as gluten intolerance and leaky gut.
As I mentioned at the start of this article, hypnosis is misunderstood. Many people only have an idea of stage hypnosis, and how funny it is to see people acting silly in public. The truth is, Strategic Hypnotherapy, uses an understanding of neuroscience, along with an evolution of the art of hypnosis to help people who have not been able to get help, get healed, for good. I am humbled when I see people make such incredible changes to their lives in such a positive way. As I say to them, they are the captain of their ship and I am just their navigator.
